Yes, Megace ES can be taken at any time of the day. It is a good idea to link the time to something else you do every day and then stick with it, making it less likely that you will forget a dose. For example, you could take Megace ES once a day when you wake up. Always take Megace ES as directed by your healthcare provider.

Do I have to eat before I take Megace ES?

No, it is not necessary to take Megace ES with food.

What does Megace ES taste like?

Megace ES has a lemon-lime flavor.1

What side effects could occur while taking Megace ES?

Side effects related to Megace ES, and occurring more commonly than with a sugar pill, include passing gas, rash, high blood pressure, fever, decreased sexual desire, not being able to have or keep an erection during sex, difficulty falling asleep, upset stomach, and increased blood sugar. Women may experience spotting between periods.

Reports of a blood clot forming in a blood vessel have been linked with use of Megace ES. If you have a history of blood clots, you should contact your doctor before using Megace ES.

With long term use of megestrol acetate, development and worsening of diabetes, Cushing’s Syndrome (which may be recognized by weight gain in the midsection or upper back, rounding of the face, weakness, tiredness, high blood pressure, and bruising), and adrenal insufficiency (which may be recognized by low blood pressure, upset stomach, vomiting, dizziness, or weakness) have been reported.
