*The FDA approval of Megace ES was based on its bioequivalence to megestrol acetate oral suspension in fed subjects. Efficacy results for Megace ES are expected to be similar to the results from 2 multicenter, randomized, double-blind efficacy trials comparing megestrol acetate oral suspension 800 mg/20 mL vs. placebo in AIDS patients over a 12-week period.¹

^† In Trial 1 (n=81), 89% of megestrol acetate–treated patients showed an improvement in appetite at endpoint (12 weeks) vs. 50% for placebo. In Trial 2 (n=65), 67% of megestrol acetate treated patients showed an improvement in appetite at endpoint (12 weeks) vs. 38% for placebo.¹

^‡ In Trial 1 (n=81), megestrol acetate–treated patients showed a mean increase of 2.5 lbs in lean body mass and a mean increase of 5.5 lbs in fat mass from baseline, whereas placebo had a mean decrease of 1.7 lbs in lean body mass and no change in fat mass from baseline. In Trial 2 (n=65), there was a mean decrease of 0.6 lbs in lean body mass and a mean increase of 5.7 lbs in fat mass from baseline, whereas placebo had a mean decrease of 1.6 lbs in lean body mass and a mean increase of 1.5 lbs in fat mass from baseline.¹
